Shikhar Dhawan (born 5 December 1985, Delhi) is an Indian international cricketer. He is a left-handed opening batsman and occasional right-arm offbreak bowler. He made his first-class debut for Delhi in November 2004. He plays and captains the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Indian Premier League.[2] He recorded the second highest score in a List A Match when he scored 248 runs of 150 balls for India A against South Africa A on 12 August 2013.[3]
He made his international debut against Australia in October 2010 at Visakhapatnam. He made his Test debut against the same opposition in March 2013 at Mohali and scored the fastest century by any batsman on Test debut (100 runs off 85 balls. He ended his innings with 187 runs off 174 balls).[4]

Dhawan belongs to a Punjabi Jat family.[5][6] He did his schooling from Lovely Public School, Priyadarshini Vihar. He is married to a half-Bengali and half-British Ayesha Mukherjee.
Career[edit]
Shikhar Dhawan played for India in the 2004 U-19 Cricket World Cup where he was the leading run scorer. His total of 505 runs from seven innings is a record for a single U-19 World Cup. He made his runs at an average of 84.16 with three centuries and was named the Player of the Tournament.
His successful run continued when he made his Ranji debut for Delhi in 2004–05, finishing as the team's leading run-getter with 461 runs. He had been a consistent performer for his state side since, as his average of nearly 45 indicates. He played a pivotal role in his team's Ranji title win in 2007–08, scoring 570 runs in eight games.
He made his ODI debut against Australia in Visakhapatnam in October 2010 after several senior players were rested. He opened the innings in the run-chase. He did not score from the first ball and was bowled off the next by Clint McKay.
He made his T20I debut against West Indies in June 2011 tour at Queen's Park Oval, under captaincy of Suresh Raina and opened along with wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel in which he scored 5 of 11 deliveries faced before being caught behind to keeper Andre Fletcher off captain Darren Sammy.
In the first ODI of the tour, with India needing 215 to win, he scored a 51 of 76 balls (3 fours, 1 six) before being held at the deep-mid wicket byLendl Simmons of leg-spinner Anthony Martin. It was his maiden ODI fifty. India eventually won the match by 4 wickets with 31 balls to spare with the help of Rohit Sharma's contribution. He had scores of 3 & 4 in the next two games.
He made his Test debut against Australia on 14 March 2013 replacing out of form Virender Sehwag. He received the cap from Sachin Tendulkar. On the third day, he scored the fastest century on Test debut, off 85 balls and broke the long-held record of highest score by an Indian debutant held by Gundappa Viswanath (137 vs Australia at Kanpur, 1969).he scored 119 as career highest at time in kanpur
He was out of the fourth Test in Delhi due to a hand injury which took place during fielding against Australia in the third Test.[7]
He won the Golden Bat award and was the player of the tournament in the victorious ICC Champions Trophy 2013 after scoring highest runs in the series with two centuries (114 vs South Africaand 102* vs West Indies) with one fifty, 68 vs Sri Lanka.[8][9]
Shikhar Dhawan scored 248 in a one-day game for India 'A' against South Africa 'A', the second highest List A score, behind Surrey batsman Ali Brown's 268 against Glamorgan at The Oval in 2002.[10]
Indian Premier League[edit]
He played for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League and made 4 half centuries. He was also the third highest scorer of the Delhi Daredevils team. He was traded to the Mumbai Indiansin exchange for Ashish Nehra. He has played for the Mumbai Indians in the second and third season of the IPL. For the fourth season he was bought by the Deccan Chargers for $300,000.
He was selected captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team prior to the start of the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 tournament.[2]

Dhawan might not have been a great impact for MI in his initial seasons. But his stint with the Hyderabad teams (Sunrisers and Deccan Chargers) gave him a moral boost for his career to be formed.
He readily fought the bowlers who underestimated him and started getting big scores eventually, grabbing the attention of the selectors.
In 2013, when Sunrisers Hyderabad were looking to get a place in the top four, he gave a trigger to the top-order after returning from an injury and assured that place. It looked as if he continued from where he had stopped at 187 versus Australia.

- He is the first Indian to score 150+ runs on a debut Test Match.
- By scoring 185 on Day 3 in his debut match he has surpassed the Indian record for highest score in his debut innings, held by Gundappa Viswanath who scored 137 against Australia (1969) in Kanpur.[17]
- By scoring 185 on Day 3 he has surpassed the Indian record of most runs in debut match held by Lala Amarnath who made 156 (38 & 118 in 2 innings) against England (1933) in Mumbai.[18]
- At the close of the play on Day 3 in his debut match, his score was 185 not out (from 168 balls) with a strike rate of 110.11 He is in 6th Position in the list of top scorers on debut; with 185 not out, just below Brendon Kuruppu of Sri Lanka with 201 not out against New Zealand on 16 April 1987.
- The stand of 289 between Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay in was the highest opening partnership in Tests featuring someone making his debut – the previous record was 276 by New Zealand's pair Stewie Dempster and Jackie Mills against England in Wellington in 1929–30.[19]
